A stroll in the Old Town is a like book on the history of architecture. Venetians, Turks, Egyptians developed and influenced the area from the 13th until the 19th century. Today the Old Town’s buildings have been restored and suitably rearranged.

The town is lively and buzzing with activity all year round. A multitude of shops, cafebars, modern and traditional restaurants and meze shops attract a lot of local and foreign visitors. Small boarding houses and luxury suites recalling ther times complete the unique atmosphere of the Old Town.

There are lots of surprises inside and outside the city. The delicious traditional Cretan cuisine will revitalize the visitor who needs rest, whether it is served in a village cafe, a country tavern or city restaurant. For centuries the locals have been expressing themselves with inspiration and passion. Everywhere, songs and dances, performances and exhibitions, but also bars, intense night life and summer beach parties fill the air! Castle of Gramvoussa

Gramvoussa is a small islet off the exotic beach of Balos, western Crete. On top of this islet, there is a steep castle built by the Venetians between 1579 and 1582. The view from the this castle is breathtaking.

Venetian Lighthouse

The lighthouse of Chania is found in the Venetian Harbour and this is the symbol of the town. Originally built by the Venetians in the 16th century, the lighthouse was reconstructed by the Egyptians in the 19th century.

Samaria Gorge

The Gorge of Samaria is one of the largest gorges in Europe and a popular hiking destination in Crete. It extends for 17 km and gives its visitors a view of impressive landscape. This is the home of rare species of flora and fauna and an abandoned village is seen on the way.
